Clarence Eugene Lewallen, age 90, of 3408 Hammond Rd., Sophia died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in the Caraway Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Lewallen was a lifetime resident of Randolph County and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was a farmer and was a member of Caraway Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wives, Ethel Mills Lewallen and Shirley Trotter Lewallen, and his son, Keith Lewallen. Clarence enjoyed woodworking. He was a well known North Carolina artist carving birds that are known worldwide and one of his largest collections, formerly owned by David Stedman, is now on permanent loan and display at the Asheboro Public Library.
He is survived by his daughter, Cathy L. Walker of Fancy Gap, VA; sons, Richard Lewallen and his wife Pat of Sophia, NC, Donald Lewallen and his wife Bonnie of Lewisville, TX, John Rivers and his wife Vicki of Trinity, NC, Tim Lewallen and his wife Esther of Sophia, NC, Scott Lewallen of Sophia, NC; 8 grandchildren and his faithful dog "Bullet".
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 9, 2011 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at the home of Richard and Pat Lewallen, 3522 Hammond Rd., Sophia.
