Clara Marie Caudill Auman

d. February 20, 2017

My Mother, Clara Marie Caudill Auman passed away at my home, just as she wished, on February 20, 2017. Our family will forever cherish the memories we have made by having her remain a daily presence in our lives until she was ready to move on. Mom was born on September 1, 1948 to Ray Dameron and Marie Auman Caudill. Her eldest sister, Mae, was excited that she finally had a sister after being "blessed" with four younger brothers. Mom was followed four years later by their youngest sister Sarah. Her earliest memories were of living at the "Army house" in Steeds and being made the look-out while her brother Carl stole peanut butter sandwiches from the kitchen. Mom always had a special affection for Seagrove High School and the classmates that she shared her journey with. She was active in planning the first several high school reunions, which have been held every five years since graduation. She never missed a reunion until last year, as she loved seeing old friends once again. Mom remained a hard worker throughout her working years and held many positions. I remember her working for Belk's when it was located in downtown. Soon afterward she moved to First People's Savings and Loan, where she established many friendships. Although she may not have been able to remain in contact with many of her fellow employees she had a special place in her heart for those coworkers. Mom worked for Hospice of Randolph when it was still a small organization located in a small physician's office and began the fundraising for what would become the remarkable building and services it is now able to provide. She was affectionately called Miss Scarlett by her favorite volunteers Gene Bumgarner and Fred Tonkins. She also worked for the Family Crisis Center and McDonald's, where she loved hosting birthday parties for kids. Probably her favorite job was in the education department at the North Carolina Zoo. Having attended and watched its growth since the inception of the zoo, she was proud to be a part of teaching adult and child attendees about the inhabitants as well as the uniqueness of our natural habitat zoo. As her parents became older and began to have medical issues that no longer allowed them to function independently, Mom chose to put her life on hold to help care for them. She remained the primary care giver for both of her parents until their passing. As a Mother, she provided me with many opportunities to grow and learn. She reestablished and assumed leadership of a Girl Scout troop in Seagrove so that I could participate. As I became active in school and community theatre she eagerly took on roles of seamstress, costume designer and props manager. Although she did not sing, dance or act, she loved working in the background while allowing me to shine onstage. The only performances she ever failed to attend were while she was unable to leave my Grandma while caring for her during her last days. We have been assisted with many care givers over the years including Taylor Galford, Sarah Wallace, Dani Cole, Charles Wall, Tajuana Helms, Brenda Cauble, and Tanya Sherer although we cannot mention everyone individually please know that she cared for each of you and greatly appreciated what you shared with her. Surviving family members include myself, Kimberly Auman Lamonds and husband Joe Lamonds of Biscoe; Wanda Dees, granddaughter and husband Eric of Biscoe; Great grandchildren, whom she adored, Olivia Lamonds, DJ Sanders, Brandon Dees, and Kaitlyn Dees all of Biscoe; Sisters, Mae C. Auman, Sarah C. Cox and husband Ricky both of Asheboro; Brothers Max Caudill and wife Barbara, Roy Caudill and wife Ann both of Asheboro, Gene Caudill and wife Elaine of Snow Camp and Carl Caudill and wife Martha of Asheboro. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she always held dear to her heart. Visitation will be held from 6:30- 8:30 pm on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro and other times at her home, 119 Robert Drive, Biscoe, NC. Funeral Services will be held at New Hope United Methodist Church, 4215 New Hope Church Road, Asheboro at 3:00 pm on Friday, February 24, 2017 with Maria King officiating. Interment will follow at Flag Springs United Methodist Church. Additional pallbearer will be Charles Wall, caregiver. Anyone attending the service will be invited to share a memory of Mom with all of us. As an animal lover, Mom would love to see any memorials made to the Montgomery County Humane Society, in care of Sally Morris, 1150 Okeewemee Rd., Troy, NC 27371 or the North Carolina Zoo Society, 4403 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, NC 27205.
