Clara Frances Bird

Mrs. Clara Frances Ensley Bird, 99, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus, GA. She was born January 23, 1914 in Bangor, PA to the late Frank N. Ensley and Emily Morris Ensley. She had one brother, the late Frank N. Ensley, Jr. She married Frederick W. Bird and later moved with the family from the Phillipsburg, NJ and the Easton, PA area to Asheboro, NC for better employment opportunities. Mrs. Bird and her husband were members of First Baptist Church in Asheboro, NC. Her sons have fond memories of her thrifty homemaking skills. She enjoyed reading, Bingo, and Duke Basketball as well as taking a number of trips to Hawaii and other destinations. Following her husband's death, she moved to Cary, NC and later to Americus, GA to be nearer to her sons. She is survived by her three sons, Frederick Bird of Rockville, MD; Robert Bird and his wife Tracy, of Cary, NC; and William Bird and his wife, Janis, of Americus, GA. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Robert Bird of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Jonathan Bird of Atlanta, GA, and Elizabeth Bird of Big Bear, CA. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 10:00 - 11:00 am at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. Funeral services follow at 11:00 am in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Rogers officiating. Burial will be at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Senior Adult Ministry (90 plus Club) 133 N. Church Street, Asheboro, NC 27203 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
