Christine "Mother Pretty" Ward Gray, 99, of Asheboro, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 3, 2009 at Carillon Assisted Living of Asheboro.A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church in Asheboro where she was a life long member. Rev. George Roberson and Rev. Mike Holder will be officiating.Born October 22, 1909 in Asheboro, Christine was the daughter of the late Arthur Miller and Gertrude Redding Miller Branson. She graduated from Asheboro High School in 1927. Christine worked at the Capitol and Sunset Theaters before joining the Randolph Hospital Staff. She retired at age 85. She attributes her longevity to walking. Christine was a much beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who always put her family and friends first.
In addition to her parents, Christine was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur "Butter" Miller; sister, Maxine "Punk" Branson Newman; and her step-father, John "Teeth" Branson.
Immediate survivors are her son and daughter in law, Jerry and Joyce Ward of Asheboro, NC, Three Grand Daughters, Ginger and her husband David Heskett of Asheville, NC; Julie and her husband Jim Payne of Summerfield, NC, and Joi and her husband Bill Lee of Greenville, NC; and eight great grandchildren, Remy Heskett, Robert Heskett, Eric Lindsey, Alexis Lee, Wil Payne;, Rachel Lindsey, Ashton Lee, and Jennie Lee.A gathering of family and friends will immediately follow the service in the church parlor.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Carillon Assisted Living and its caregivers and to Hospice of Randolph County for the care and concern shown Christine.
