Mr. Chessie Clarence Freeman, age 96, of Troy, died Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Autumn Care of Biscoe.
Mr. Freeman was born January 27, 1919 in Stanly County, NC, the son of Clarence Alexander and Margaret Poplin Freeman.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy and a US Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Freeman was a former employee of Stanly Hardware of Stanly County and later retired from Central Lumber and Supply of Troy with 30 years of service in the hardware business.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Ophelia Whitley Freeman and one son, Buddy Freeman.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Hazel Leagans Kapp Freeman of the home; four sons: Johnny Freeman and wife, Barbara of Troy, Frank Freeman and wife, Jill of Candor, Lee Freeman and wife, Pat of Charlotte and Silas Freeman of Aquadale; three stepchildren: David G. Kapp, Sr. and wife Karen of Kernersville, Teresa K. Riggs of Kernersville and Melinda “Mindy” Shelton of Winston Salem; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1-2 pm at First Baptist Church, 401 E. Main St., Troy. A funeral service will follow at 2 pm with Dr. Phillips McRae officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard, will be in Canton Baptist Church Cemetery, 24615 Endy Rd., Albemarle, NC.
