Charlie Artie Powers

Charlie Artie "Chuck" Powers, age 88, of 595 Morton Ave., Asheboro died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at his home. Mr. Powers was born in Concord, NC on July 23, 1923 to James Earl and Reciece Brendle Powers. He was a decorated World War II veteran and was a charter member of Smyrna Grove Church. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his daughter Peggy Sue Powers, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Polly Cooper Powers; son, Charles Bruce Powers and his wife Robin of Denton, Bill Powers and his wife Evelyn of Thomasville; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Bertha Milligan of Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 15, 2012 from 2:00-3:30 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 4:00 pm at Smyrna Grove Community Church Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to Smyrna Grove Church, 1275 Back Creek Road, Asheboro, NC 27205.
