Charlie Ray Joyce, age 95, of Seagrove passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at his home.
Mr. Joyce was born in Stokes County, NC on November 27, 1927 to Silas and Annie Pruitt Joyce. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Military Police. Charlie Ray was employed with the Asheboro Police Department for 5 years and served as Chief Deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff's Department. Upon leaving the Sheriff's Department in 1967, Charlie Ray was an officer with Randolph County Schools until 1974. Charlie Ray was a lifelong farmer and was a member of Seagrove Christian Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and politics. In addition to his parents, Charlie Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Vern Ann Stuart Joyce, daughter, Vicki Pearce, grandson-in-law, Chad Brady; and siblings, George Joyce, Alma Cockman, Mae Gibson, Reid Joyce, John Joyce, Calvin Joyce, Codell Joyce, and Pearl Patterson.
He is survived by his son, Charles Joyce (Vickie) of Seagrove; son-in-law, Mike Pearce of Asheboro; grandchildren, Tammy Brady of Asheboro, Travis Joyce of Seagrove, and Hannah Joyce of Seagrove; great grandson, Clay Brady (Samantha) of Asheboro; and sisters, Sarah Oliver, Patsy "Pat" Brown, and Jearl Purvis.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 11:00 am at Seagrove Christian Church, 424 East Main Street in Seagrove with Pastor Bo Wansley and Pastor L.D. Pritchard officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Whynot Cemetery.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of the Fresenius Kidney Care Center for the loving care given to Charlie Ray for the past five years.
