Charlesanna Louise Fox was the daughter of Charles M. and Elizabeth Spencer Fox and was a native of Asheboro, NC. She was a graduate of Asheboro High School, North Carolina College for Women, and of the Library School at UNC Chapel Hill. After teaching four years at Maxton High School, she moved to Washington, DC. She worked in the District of Columbia Public Library and later in the Winston Salem and Knoxville, TN public libraries. During World War II she was a Navy librarian, serving as camp librarian at Camp Lejeune, N.C. and as the Fourteenth Naval District librarian at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. In December 1943 she returned to Asheboro and accepted the position of Randolph County Librarian, retiring from that position in November 1977. Miss Fox was active in the community, serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Historical Society for many years, Chairman of the County Commission on Aging, member of the Board of Association for Exceptional Persons, among others. She was a member of the Asheboro Library Corporation, the Reviewers Book Club and the Business and Professional Women's Club. In her church, First Presbyterian, she served as deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher, circle leader, historian and a member of the building committee. She was President of the North Carolina Library Association 1953 - 1955, and of the North Carolina Adult Education Association in 1956. She was given the UNCG Alumni Service Award in 1974. She was named Citizen of the Year in 1999 by the Randolph-Asheboro Chamber of Commerce. Charlesanna was awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Mike Easley in 2008. She is survived by seven nieces and nephews, eleven great nieces and nephews and four great-great nieces and nephews, and one sister-in-law. Predeceased were her parents and her three brothers, Charles Alexander, Howard Spencer, and James Hamilton. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 420 West Walker Ave., Asheboro, NC 27203, or Randolph Public Library, 201 North Worth Street, Asheboro, NC 27203. Family and friends will gather in the narthex of First Presbyterian Church at 11:00 on Saturday, November 17th. It will be followed by a memorial service, in celebration of her life, at 12 noon. A family burial is planned. Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro is assisting the family.
