Charles Andrew "Andy" Upton, 59, died March 30, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00 pm. Inurnment to follow at New Hope Memorial Gardens.
Andy was born January 11, 1956 in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary "Pat" Upton Cooper and Charles Elton Upton, a half-brother Jeff Upton and his best friend Matt Joyner.
Those left to cherish his memory are brother Eric Upton and wife Pat, niece Sarah Cook and husband George, niece Laura Upton, half-brothers Charles Upton, Jr., Michael Upton, Robert Upton, stepfather Benjamin Cooper, stepmother Carlotta Upton, aunt Marie Edminston, his dear friend Ricky Boyd, his companion and caregiver Cheryl Upton Emms, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
One of Andy's proudest achievements was obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout in June 1971 through Boy Scout Troop 333, under the leadership of Scoutmaster Bill Spivey at Lumberton First Baptist Church.
Andy graduated from Lumberton Senior High School in 1974. He attended North Carolina State University where he bled red. After college he began a career with J.H. Allen, Inc. General Contractors that spanned 29 years. After his career in construction he continued to work until his diagnosis in 2014.
Andy never met a stranger and throughout his life he continued to be friends with people he grew up with, went to school with, and worked with throughout his travels across the state. He loved God, this great country, and North Carolina State University.
