Charles Ray "Bud" Thomas, age 83, of Asheboro died Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
Mr. Thomas was born November 18, 1931 in Randolph County, NC, the son of Howard, Sr. and Bertie Coble Thomas. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a Prisoner of War. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the POW Medal. After being discharged from the Army, Charles was employed with Adamson Cadillac and Olds and Vaughn Auto Supply. He was the sales manager for Thomas Brothers Country Ham for 30 years and retired in 1994, where he also served on the pit crew of Thomas Brothers Country Ham sponsored NASCAR Late Model race car driven by Sam Ard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jane Johnson Thomas, a son, Charles Ray Thomas, Jr., and brothers, Howard M. Thomas, Jr. and Homer Franklin Thomas.
He is survived by daughters: Wanda and her husband, Tommie Kendrick of Asheboro, NC and Linda Sue Smith of Seagrove, NC; Grandchildren, William and Timothy Smith, Thomas, Matthew and Ellen Kendrick; Great Grandchildren, Chris and Timmy Jay Smith, Jr.; Sisters, Gaynelle Yow and Louise and her husband, Russell Routh of Liberty; Brothers, Jim and his wife, Lurlene Millikan and H. Dean and his wife, Rachel Millikan of Asheboro and Ronnie and his wife, Sylvia Kirkman of Liberty.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 2, 2015 from 6:00–8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Honeycutt and Frank Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, Greensboro with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
