Charles Ross Harris, age 93, of Asheboro passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the Randolph Hospice House.
Mr. Harris was born in Thomasville on May 6, 1923 to Charlie T. and Maude Lambeth Harris. Ross served his country in the U.S. Army-Air Force during WWII. He was retired from the NC Department of Transportation after 45 years of service. Ross was a member of Flag Springs United Methodist Church. Ross enjoyed hunting, farming, and bluegrass music. He loved spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Ross was preceded in death by his brothers, John Lee, Arthur, Paul, and Bobby Harris.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Cripps Harris; daughters, Carolyn Robbins and husband Roger of Asheboro, Gail McDowell and husband Tony of Asheboro, Linda Harris of Asheboro; son, Farrell Harris and wife Cheran of Asheboro; grandchildren, Derek (Teresa) Robbins, Jackson Vick, Ross Lee Harris, Max Harris, Andrea (Wayne) Heverly, Ashley McDowell and Jeffrey McDowell; great grandchildren, Braxton Vick, Keaton Weatherly, Benjamin Harris, Carter Harris, Ryan Heverly, Laura (Kevin) Mann, Elizabeth (J.D.) Coffman, Kyle Robbins, Thomas Robbins; great great grandson, Brody Mann; sisters, Evelyn H. Darr of Thomasville, Hope H. Sechriest of Thomasville, Betty (Steve) Horosko of Thomasville, Jessie (Bobby) Sellers of Asheboro, Joann Allred of Franklinville, Mildred (Bobby) Cooper of Thomasville, Carolyn O'Neal of Southmont, and Helen (Lawrence) Briles of Lexington; and beloved nieces and nephews. Ross cared for his numerous friends, hunting buddies, and neighbors.
The family will receive friends Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 12:00-1:45 pm in the Flag Springs United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 5852 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Saturday at 2:00 pm at Flag Springs United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Nations and Rev. Matt Gunter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
