Catherine "Katie" Raines

Catherine (Katie) Elizabeth Raines, 38 peacefully departed this life June 27 at Beacon Place as a result of brain tumor first diagnosed in 2000. She was born in Durham on January 27, 1978 the daughter of the late Nancy Griffin and Thomas Haywood Raines. She was a graduate of Ledford High School and attended UNC on a Teaching Fellows scholarship. She later attained a graduate degree from UNC-G. In addition to her mother she was predeceased by her grandparents Ruby and Haywood Raines, Walter Efird and uncle Mike Cox. She is survived by her father Tom Raines, her sister Emily Taylor Yamamoto, grandmother Carol Efird, her niece, Eleanor Catherine Yamamoto, her aunts Joan Raines Nipper, Beth Poage and Candy Weiss and her uncle Brad Cox, cousins Holly Davis and Karl Isham. She is also survived by many other loving relatives including a host of Kirkman cousins. Most importantly she is survived by a wonderful and caring boyfriend, David Roberts. A visitation will be held at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30. A graveside service will be Friday morning at 11:00 at Randolph Memorial Park.
