Carter Ingle Pike, age 86, of 1212 Hopewell Friends Rd., Asheboro died Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Asheboro Friends Meeting, 230 E. Kivett St.,Asheboro with Rev. Ken & Pat Thames, Rev. Billy Britt, and Rev. Winfred Crouse officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Friends Meeting Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Pike was born on April 13, 1924 in Dunn, NC to D. Virgil and Ethel Phillipie Pike. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force for 3 years and was stationed in England during WWII. Carter was a graduate of Guilford College and received his Masters Degree from UNC-G. He was formerly a Principal and Teacher at Providence School and a former Principal at Silk Hope High School, Goldston Elementary School, Sylvan Elementary School, and New Market Elementary School. He was the former Director of the Title I Program in Randolph County and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Carter was a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting where he was a former Sunday School teacher and served on numerous committees. He was the former Clerk of the North Carolina Yearly Meeting of Friends (Quakers). He was past president of the Randolph County Forest Club, was a member of the Asheboro Optimist Club and a member of the Randolph County Livestock and Poultry Association. In addition to his parents, Carter was preceded in death by his brothers, D. Virgil Pike, Jr., Phryne P. Pike, and Homer Pike.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ellen Branson Pike; son, David Neal Pike and his wife Debbie Dwiggins Pike of Asheboro, NC; grandson, Nathan Pike of Asheboro, NC; and granddaughter, Emily Pike of Savannah, GA.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 29, 2011 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
