Carrie Isabelle Phillips Stamets, age 86, of Cameron passed away on Friday, November 1, 2019 at the home of her youngest daughter in Randleman.
Mrs. Stamets was born in Moore County on July 4, 1933 to Charles McIver and Carrie Deese Phillips. She was proud to be from Cameron and was a graduate of Cameron High School where she was selected Most Valuable Player of her school basketball team. She was retired from Black & Decker. Carrie was a very involved member of her church, Cameron Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Carrie was preceded in death by her husband Harry Stamets, and brothers, Percy, Ruby, Paul, Wilbur, Warren, and Joe Phillips. Carrie loved spending time with her family and sharing memories and stories. Carrie was an avid gardener and cook and loved fishing and could beat anyone at Skip-Bo. She had an infectious laugh, finding humor in everything.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah S. Mills (Ron) of Kill Devil Hills and Beverly J. Workman (Jim) of Randleman; son, Michael D. Stamets of Cameron; grandchildren, Stephanie A. Leach, Ashley C. Leach, Carrie Knox, Tabatha Lewis, Benjamin Stamets, Taylor Stephens, Caryn Workman; great grandchildren, Connor and Gavin Knox, Ilias Rappos, Blythe and Cayson Lewis, Robbie Workman, Wesley Stamets, and Norah Stephens; and sisters, Verla Whittington, Vivian Sloan, and Margaret Baker.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 3, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 4, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery, 737 Albemarle Road in Asheboro with Pastor Jared McNeill officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 11:00 am at Cameron Baptist Church with a reception following the service.
