Carolyn Newby

Carolyn Carlton Newby, age 91, of Asheboro died Friday, February 27, 2015 at Randolph Hospice House. Mrs. Newby was born April 30, 1923 in Anniston, AL. the daughter of William and Mary (Billings) Carlton. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husbands: Darrell W. Hendrix and W. Ray Newby; son: Roger Newby; brothers: Wallace Carlton, Robert Carlton, Richard Carlton; and sister: Christine Payton. Mrs. Newby was employed by Scott's Book Store where she worked as a clerk for over 20 years. Carolyn regularly appeared on the Grand Ole Opry in her teenage years along with her sister Evelyn Culnon. She also enjoyed actives such as line dancing, bingo, and crossword puzzles. Carolyn remained active in the Homemakers Sunday School Class and the Good Times club at Central United Methodist Church, where she was a member for several years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who will be missed by many. She is survived by sons: Darryl Hendrix, Ronald Hendrix, Bill Newby and his wife Neva; sisters: Mary Grissom, Evelyn Culnon, Joan Kemp and her husband Richard; grandsons: Barkley Hendrix, Larkin Newby; granddaughters: Angel Hendrix, Stephanie Newby, Ashley Newby; great grandsons: Tyler Newby, Marshall Newby, Mitchell Newby; great granddaughters: Abigail Becker, Megan Becker, and Caroline Becker The family will receive friends Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 1:00-3:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral service will be Monday, March 2, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Central United Methodist Church, 300 South Main Street, Asheboro with Dr. Terry L. Matthews officiating.
