Carolyn Murphy O’Kelley Fischer of Asheboro passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Randolph Hospice House.
Mrs. Fischer was born February 17, 1942 in Lynchburg, VA to Stephen Booker and Frances Maddox Murphy.
She is a former member of Rhett Avenue Christian Church, Charleston, SC; and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Clearwater, FL; and attended Palm Lake Christian Church, St Petersburg, FL. Mrs. Fischer was a graduate of St. Petersburg High School and St. Petersburg Junior College; and Tomlinson Adult Education Center where she received her dental assistant certification. She served as dental assistant to Dr. David Young, St. Petersburg, FL; operations manager for O’Asian Designs, Charleston, SC; and most recently as partner in O’Cara Properties, LLC, Asheboro, NC.
Mrs. Fischer was a former member of the American Dental Assistants Association; Mary-Martha Circle and Christian Women’s Fellowship of Palm Lake Christian Church; and current member of Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce. In later years she worked in various hospital administration positions and volunteered with several charitable and advocacy organizations in the greater St. Petersburg area.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fischer was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Michael O’Kelley, Sr.; and brother, Walter Brent Murphy.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Henry P. Fischer, Jr.; son, J. Michael O'Kelley, Jr. and wife Tammy Potts-O’Kelley of Asheboro; grandson, Nicholas P. O'Kelley and wife Ashley Misenheimer O’Kelley of Summerville, SC; sister, Marie M. Samec and husband James of Gainesville, FL; brothers-in-law, Rev. John F. Fischer, and wife Susan, of North Charleston, SC and James W. O’Kelley, Sr., and wife Pat of North Redington Beach, FL; nephews, Brian Samec, Gainesville, FL; James Walter O’Kelley, Jr., Chicago, IL; Rev. Christopher Fischer, Anderson, SC; Jamie Fischer, Goose Creek, SC; Shaun Fischer, Ladson, SC; Kirk Fischer, Mt. Pleasant, SC; nieces, Shelley Samec, Gainesville, FL; Kathleen O’Kelley Hoogerhuis, Redmond, OR; Kim O’Kelley Leigh, Bend, OR; Meg O’Kelley Heinz, Chicago, IL; Katie O’Kelley-Hendricks and Trisha O’Kelley, Los Angeles, CA; and Shannon Fischer Dunavan, Goose Creek, SC.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Ave, Asheboro NC 27203, with Dr. Tom Smith, Associate Pastor, Forestbrook Baptist Church, Myrtle Beach, SC, and Rev. Ralph Pugh, Associate Pastor, Friendship Baptist Church, Randleman officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:30 PM, and other times at the home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Christine McCarty, Linda Theuerkorn, NP, Donna York, and all the staff at Randolph Cancer Center and Randolph Home Health; Dr.’s Scott Murkin and Patricia Shevlin; Kim Auman, Misty Mize, Mollie, Noah, April, Cindy, and all the staff at Hospice of Randolph County for the attention Mrs. Fischer received while in their care; and Dr. & Mrs. Timothy Misenheimer, Mr. & Mrs. Steve Potts, and Mrs. Linda Murphy of Asheboro, and Mrs. Linda Brown of Randleman, for their assistance to the family over the past three months.
