Carmen A. Luca, age 89 years, of Asheboro, NC, died on Monday, March 8, 2010 at his home. Born in Cranford, NJ, September 23, 1920, son of the late Louis and Mary Rocca Luca, he had resided in Delaware Township, NJ from 1953-2004 when he moved to Asheboro. A United States Army Air Corps pilot during World War II, Mr. Luca was formerly an Electrical Engineer. He later became an owner and trainer of Thoroughbred Race Horses and was one of the first mink ranchers in NJ. Mr. Luca was also a member of the New Jersey Horseman's Association as well as the owner of one of the original 2000 automobile dealerships for the Tucker car. His wife of fifty-nine years, Helen Capone Luca, died in 2003. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Carmen and Augie Peterson of Asheboro, NC and Dr. Carol and Adam Jannik of Natchitoches, LA; a brother, Louis Luca of Hayworth, NJ; a sister, Mary Ann Beyerman of Piscataway, NJ; four grandchildren, Tracy, Adam, Cortney and Augie; and three great grandchildren, Shelby, Caroline and Rowan. A memorial service will be held at Clapp's Mountain Top Apartments on April 10, 2010 at 5:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adams Way, Randleman, NC 27317. Local arrangements by Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.
