Carlie "Lee" Edward Batten, age 88, of 910 Troy Candor Rd., Troy died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Autumn Care of Biscoe, NC.
Mr. Batten was born September 13, 1919 at Montgomery County, NC, the son of the late Claude F. and the late Nannie V. (Lamonds) Batten. He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. He was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church and a self-employed logger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elbie Tysinger Batten.
He is survived by two daughters: Toni B. Fish of Troy, and Helen B. Lee of Ellerbe; two sons: Mitchell E. Batten and Carlie H. Batten, both of Troy; four sisters: Janie Parnell, Elaine Burgess, Grace Hogan and Thelma Epps, all of Troy; 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-9 PM at Pugh- Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at the home of daughter, Toni Fish, 237 Eastway Dr., Troy. The funeral will be Friday at 3:00 pm at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, 1569 Troy-Candor Rd., Candor, with Rev. Grady Blakely and Rev. Robert Hittepole officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Laurel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
