Carl Waverly Underwood

Carl Waverly Underwood, age 84, of Asheboro died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Randolph Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church, 1810 Old Farmer Road, Asheboro with Dr. Ron Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors. Mr. Underwood was born on August 21, 1926 in Randleman, NC to William L. and Ivar Allred Underwood. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 and was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 18 years of service. He was a member of Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Worth, Kenneth, Colon, and Glenn Underwood, and his sister Edith Moody. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Hilda Routh Underwood; sons, Edward Underwood and his wife MaryAnn of Asheboro, NC and Rick Underwood of Stokesdale, NC; grandchildren, Edward Underwood of Camp Lejeune, NC serving in the military in Afghanistan, Timothy Carl Underwood of Asheboro, NC, Marie Moody of Hutcheson, KS, and Angela Hendershot of Chicago, IL; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Louise Klabetts. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
