Carl David Scearce, age 74 went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 18 surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Scearce was a native of Rockingham County and a graduate of Ruffin High School.
He served Randolph County for 30 years with the NC Highway Patrol. After being retired for 2 years, David went to work for the Randolph County Sheriff Department, retiring as a Captain after 21 years of service. David loved his job in law enforcement and he loved the people of Randolph County. He was always ready to help anyone out. His neighbor Jerry had once met a trooper in Greensboro and asked him if he knew David and he said, "Oh yes, he was a legend." In his early years, David was a volunteer fireman with the Ulah Fire Department, once again serving the people of Randolph County.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #0699 in Asheboro and also a member of The Randolph Rifle Club. David was of the Baptist faith and attended Bailey's Grove Baptist Church.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ann Scearce.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Brenda Scearce; daughter, Pam St. John and husband Mike of Asheboro; son, Michael Scearce and wife Blakely of Archdale; grandchildren, Ashley (Gator) St. John of Asheboro, Cole St. John and wife Mariela of Jacksonville, and Lydia Scearce of Archdale; and great granddaughter, Adrianna Gomez.
David was a wonderful husband, father, and papa, always making sure his family was looked after.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Bailey's Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Shook and Jimmy Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
The family would like to express its most sincere gratitude to Hospice of Randolph County for their loving care during his battle with lung cancer and the stroke, as well as his family and friends. A special thanks to Marilyn Vanhorn for her loving care given to David and his family.
