C. Gerald Smith

C. Gerald Smith, age 79, of Troy died Monday, December 2, 2013 at his home. Gerald was born September 21, 1934 at Montgomery County, NC, the son of Carmie Victor (Vick) and Bernice Saunders Smith. Gerald was an active member of First Wesleyan Church of Troy. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved his dogs. Gerald loved working outdoors in his yard as well as gardening. He worked in the family business, Smith's Laundry and Cleaners, for many years. He loved to watch and root for his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. He was a self-employed carpenter and plumber and a blue grass music fan. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Billy G. Smith. He is survived by his wife of 59 years: Shirley Hall Smith of the home; two sons: Gerald Scott (Scotty) Smith (Patsy) of Troy, Michael Ray Smith (Lisa) of Troy; one daughter: Andrea Smith Bowles of the home; 5 grandchildren: Ashley S. Haywood (Jason) of New London, Wesley Smith of Raleigh, Brooke A. Bowles, Courtney L. Bowles and Lauren E. Bowles, all of Troy; one brother: Leonard Smith (Dixie) of Troy; two sisters: Marceline Nelson of Troy, Marie Donathan (Bill) of Wadesboro. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N Main St., Troy; other times at the home. The funeral will be Friday at 11:00 am at First Wesleyan Church, 1368 NC Highway 134 North, Troy with Rev. Brian Wardlaw and Rev. Ed Lindsey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
