Charles David Lewallen, Sr., age 87, of Asheboro passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Randolph Hospital.
Mr. Lewallen was born in Randolph County on August 29, 1928 to Bascom E. and Lura Davidson Lewallen. David served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and was retired from Union Carbide after 37 years of service. He was a lifetime member of West Bend United Methodist and a member of Balfour Masonic Lodge #188 for 60 years. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Marie Bulla Lewallen, son Charles David Lewallen, Jr., brothers Paul and Oliver Lewallen, and sister Rebecca Jane Irby.
He is survived by his daughter, April Brown and husband Mike of Asheboro; grandson, Travis Brown and wife Kristy of Asheboro; granddaughter, Tracy Chriscoe and husband Chad of Concord; great granddaughter, Grace Chriscoe; and great grandson, Carter Brown.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 26, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3:00 pm at West Bend United Methodist Church, 1080 Albemarle Road, Asheboro with Rev. Drew McIntyre. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends following the committal service in the church fellowship hall.
The family would like extend a special thanks to the staff of Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home for the loving care given to David.
