James Bryce Robbins, age 84, of Asheboro died Friday, March 2, 2012 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
Mr. Robbins was born May 26, 1927, the son of Nathan Allen and Gertrude Claire Jarrell Robbins.
Mr. Robbins was a native of Randolph County and a member of Mt. Shepherd United Methodist Church. Bryce was a graduate of Asheboro High School and High Point University. He received a degree in Driver's Education from U.N.C. Chapel Hill and Application State University. He taught school in Randolph County School System for over 34 years, during which time he coached J.V. and Varsity Basketball at Seagrove and Ramseur High School. He spent his last 16 years teaching Driver's Education at Eastern Randolph High School. He taught part time at Randolph Community College and Central Carolina Community College in Siler City and Sanford for nearly 30 years. He served as president of the Driver's Education South Piedmont Association and served on the State Board of Driver's Education in Raleigh. He won 2 State Driving Championships with his students in 1978 and 1979. Bryce served as President of the Asheboro Civitan Club in 1962 and served as Administrative Council Chairman at Mt. Shepherd United Methodist Church for several years and was on several committees at his church. Mr. Robbins served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife: Eldora King Robbins in 2005.
Bryce is survived by one son: Jim Robbins and his wife, Debi of Roxboro, NC and granddaughter: Rebecca Robbins and her husband, Andy Brown.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
