Brooks Odell Underwood, age 94, of Asheboro died Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at North Carolina Veterans Home in Salisbury.
Mr. Underwood was a native of Randolph County and a member of Central Falls Baptist church. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in the 1st Calvary Division. Mr. Underwood was formerly employed with Burlington Mills and retired from the US Postal service in Greensboro. He enjoyed playing golf and watching baseball, especially his favorite teams the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees. As his first flight ever, Mr. Underwood was honored by going on the "Flight Of Honor" on April 17, 2010. In addition to his parents, Samuel Christopher and Maude Bulla Underwood, Brooks was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Maxine T. Underwood, second and third wives, Delcie Hughes Underwood and Mary Routh Underwood, son, Terry Underwood and 5 siblings.
He is survived by son: Vaden Underwood and wife Charlotte of Rockmart, GA and their son, Christopher Brooks Underwood and wife Tammy and their son, Brooks Underwood all of Pikeville, TN, son: Craig Underwood and wife Dale of Asheboro, and their children, David Craig Underwood and wife Sara and their children, Preston and Sydney all of Clovis, NM, Jennifer Kerns and husband Brian and their children, Austin and Ethan all of Sanford; sister, Johanna Miller of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerald Hussey officiating. Entombment will be in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
