Our dear husband, father, grandfather, surrounded by his loving family, left this home for another on Christmas Eve. Therefore, we celebrated two lives well lived.
Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 10, 1929, to the late Foster C. and Iola Graham Sharp Richardson, Breck grew up in High Point and Seagrove, N.C., before his higher education at Campbell College and Wake Forest University. He served four years in the U.S. Navy.
Breck began his career at Klopman Mills in the Methods and Standards Department after being hired by Robert Walker, Sr., the gentleman he most admired. He became a top salesman for Dixie Container Corporation of Richmond, Virginia and High Point for the next thirty-five years before joining forces with his nephew, Herbert Mitchell, to create two successful businesses: B&H Panel Company and Atlantic Packaging. He also built or refurbished several buildings around Asheboro.
In early years, he loved to hunt and was always an avid golfer, as were his five siblings.
Breck was a seventy-year member of First United Methodist Church, 224 N. Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, N.C., and a member of Asheboro Country Club and Pinewood Country Club. He was responsible for adding nine holes to the golf course at Asheboro Country Club, which were designed by the late Jim Bivins. He had been an Asheboro Jaycee, and was a member of Randolph Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow.
He was preceded in death by his five wonderful siblings, and his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, and his much-adored children: daughter, Kathy Richardson Vaughn (Brooks), of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and his sons Breck J. Richardson, II, of San Diego, California and Mark Richardson (Patricia) of Huntersville, N.C. Also left to cherish his memory are four special and well-loved grandchildren – Kathryn B. Vaughn of Washington, D.C. (fiancé Greg Mottla); Graham Vaughn of Charleston, S.C.; Sandra A. Richardson and Patrick B. Richardson of Huntersville, N.C. – and special friends, Darrell Hunter, Steve Bimbo and Don Bristow of Asheboro, N.C.; and Dr. H Lee Griffin of Williamsburg, Virginia.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street in Asheboro with Rev. Lynda Ferguson and Rev. Don Haynes officiating. Inurnment will be in the First United Methodist Church Columbarium with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A reception will follow at Pinewood Country Club with lunch provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to First United Methodist Church of Asheboro, N.C., or to the charity of the donor’s choosing.
