Bobby Gene Saunders, age 77, of 425 Clearview Drive, Asheboro died Friday, June 18, 2010 at Hospice Home at High Point.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Rev. Jimmy Shirlen, Rev. Mitch Walker and Rev. Jeff Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Saunders was a native of Montgomery County but spent most of his life in Asheboro. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Garner Florist after 25 years of service and later worked at Asheboro Florist, Freeman's Florist and Arbor Gate Florist. Bobby was a member of Shady Grove Christian Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee, and Alter Steward. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and was an accomplished cake decorator and artist. He won many Senior Game awards for his oil paintings and was a member of the American Legion. Bobby loved his wife, children, grandchildren and the Lord.
Bobby was born May 22, 1933 in Montgomery County and was preceded in death by his parents: Will and Lillie Saunders, brother: Oskar Saunders and sister: Bertha Lefler. He is survived by his wife: Nancy Brown Saunders, son: Jimmy Saunders and his wife, Leanne of Asheboro; daughter: Angie Freeman and her husband, Jeff of Randleman; 4 grandchildren: Autumn and Cory Saunders both of Asheboro, Courtney and Jordan Freeman both of Randleman and his sister-in-law: Lucille Saunders of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends, Monday, June 21, 2010 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro and other times at his home.
