William Blake Kearns, 91, passed away on May 4, 2011, at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church with Reverend Darrell Rabon, Reverend Howard Moffitt, and Reverend Jeff Garner officiating. Interment will follow at Science Hill Friends Meeting where he was a lifelong member.
A Randolph County native, Mr. Kearns was born February 14, 1920, to Clarence E. and Ida Vuncannon Kearns. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Oleta Shaw Kearns, three grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Exie Loflin Mabe Kearns, of the home at 4614 NC Hwy. 49S, Asheboro 27205; his son, William Curtis Kearns (Carrie) and four daughters: Patricia McBryde (Lester), Joyce Kivett (Norman), Brenda Monroe (Charles), and Carol Watson (Tommy); and, Stepson Ronnie Mabe. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 7 step-great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Mr. Kearns retired from Union Carbide with 31 years service and was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
The family will receive friends at Pugh Funeral Home Friday, May 6, 2011, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and other times at his home.
