Billy C. Tarlton, age 89, of Asheboro died Friday, September 20, 2013 at the Randolph Hospice House.
Mr. Tarlton was born September 17, 1924 in Wadesboro to William B. and Susie N. Tarlton. He served as a Marine in the South Pacific and China during World War II. He was with the first group of Randolph County veterans to go to Washington, DC on the Flight of Honor. Mr. Tarlton was retired from Carolina Power and Light after 33 years of service. He was a Mason serving as Past Master of Asheboro Lodge #699 and also a Shriner. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tarlton was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years Lillie "Pete" Tarlton, grandson, Brian Tarlton, great grandson, Bryce Hughes and three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Hurley (Rocky) of Asheboro, Patty Herbert (Fred, Jr.) of Kingstree, SC; sons, Ron (Helen), Bill (Janice),and Kenneth all of Asheboro, James Tarlton of Thomasville; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and sister, Katherine Clark of Jefferson, SC.
A special thank you for all the prayers and visits of loving friends and family that visited with Billy. Also to Dr. Douglas Shultz and his staff and to Hospice of Randolph for the care given to Billy during his illness.
The family will receive friends Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 12:30-2:30 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Snider, Chaplain Dwight Ayers, Chaplain Tim Pheagin and Pastor Eldler Alan R. Caesar officiating. Burial will be in Jowers Cemetery in Wadesboro with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The family will meet at the home of Cheryl Hurley, 903 Uwharrie St., Asheboro.
