Billy "Bill" Wilson Johnson, age 83, of Asheboro passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Johnson was born in Randolph County on April 29, 1932 to John Randolph and Minnie Shaw Johnson.
He was a member of Science Hill Friends Meeting. Bill was retired from Builders First Source (formerly the Asheboro Block Plant). In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lowe Johnson, sisters Clara Mae Johnson and Lucille Vestal and brothers Jessie Lee Johnson and Dwayne Johnson.
Bill loved sports. He enjoyed playing baseball growing up and golf with his friends. He earned the "Super Fan" award in 1972-73 for his dedication to the Farmer Junior High School. He never missed any of his sons' games, football, baseball or basketball.
He loved working with wood in his spare time. Softball became another one of his favorites as he became part of the Main Street South softball team. We want to thank each of them for their friendship. They were very special and an important part of Bills life. He loved being with you.
Bill was also a very special Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Spending time with him after school, exploring, creating things, or walking in the woods or on the beach. Every minute will be treasured in our hearts.
Bill also enjoyed helping with the farm, cutting the hay, and mending fences and maintenance. He lived his life to the fullest.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Johnson Wardlaw and husband David of Asheboro; son, Neil Johnson and wife Sandy of Asheboro; grandchildren, Jennifer Routh and husband Jimmy of Asheboro, Kellie Cook and husband Jeff of Asheboro, Leslie Hoover and husband Brad of Asheboro, Derek Dawkins and wife Jade of Randleman; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Cook of Asheboro, Hunter Routh of Asheboro, Hailey Brown of Asheboro, Haven Brown of Asheboro, Sadie Dawkins of Randleman; sister, Pat Arnold and husband Johnny of Trinity; brothers, Joe Johnson and wife Ann of Rockwell and J.R. Johnson of Trinity.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 11:00 am at Science Hill Friends Meeting, 2421 Lassiter Mill Road, Asheboro with Rev. Michael Fulp, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the meeting cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
