Alva Broughton (Bill) Sellers, age 91 of 500 Mountain Top Drive, Asheboro died January 30, 2013 at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home.
He is survived by his son, Broughton Sellers and wife Beatrice of Elon; son-in-law Charles Swiers and wife Susan of Asheboro; grandchildren J.J. Sellers and wife Bryce of Morristown, TN; Scott Sellers and fiancée Ellen of Willow Springs; Amanda Turner and husband Alan of Burlington; Jennifer Brewer and husband Kevin of Asheboro; Casandra Newton and husband Galen of Havelock; Ellie Parker and husband Garret of Asheboro; Rebecca Kidd and husband Alex of Asheboro; brother Tommy Sellers of Asheboro and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lee Broughton Sellers and Melvina Viola Dabbs; sisters Irma Lee, Elizabeth, Earleen, Evelyn; brother Hoyle; wife Hazel Myers Sellers; daughter Jane Sellers Swiers; and great grandson Ben Goebel.
Following three years of service in the United States Army stationed in Hale, CO and Burma, India, Bill returned and became an independent insurance broker. He retired from Mid-State Insurance Agency after twenty-one years with the company. He enjoyed working for Pugh Funeral Home for fifteen years following his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and a talented craftsman who loved wood working, specializing in grandfather clocks. Bill was a member of Central United Methodist Church for more than 65 years.
The family will receive friends at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro on Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 12:30 - 1:30pm. Funeral services will follow on Saturday at 2:00pm in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Terry L. Matthews officiating. Interment with military honors by the Randolph Honor Guard will follow the service at Oaklawn Cemetery.
