William Francis "Bill" Powell, Jr., age 70, of 1530 Sylvan Woods Drive, Asheboro died Saturday, May 24, 2008.
Mr. Powell graduated from Harding High School, Charlotte, NC, Class of 1956 and then went on to play minor league baseball in the Washington Senators organization. He was president and owner of Carolina Lighting Systems; guest lecturer at North Carolina State University on lighting design. He was also the former Vice President of Elsco Lighting; former regional sales manager of Duel-Lite; former national sales manager of Charlotte Emergency Lighting. He was co-owner of Coastal Paramedics. He coached numerous Little League and Pony League baseball teams in Asheboro and was the current coach of the Asheboro Imaging Pony League baseball team. Mr. Powell attended Central United Methodist Church. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach and friend. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Lois Powell; son and his wife, W. Jeffrey and Sheree Powell of Wentzville, MO; son and his wife, Kenneth G. & Lynn Powell of Thomasville, NC; grandchildren: Dustin, Jordan and Sydney Powell; step daughter Melanie P. Murray and Joe Bolen of Greensboro, NC; step daughter and her husband, Kristy and Archie, Priest, Jr. of Asheboro; step grandchildren, Megan, Meredith, and Madison Priest; two sisters: Cathy Napier of Stanley, NC, and Christy Bumgarner of Charlotte, NC.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 27, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. The funeral will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Central United Methodist Church, 300 South Main Street, Asheboro with Dr. Mark J. Key, Rev. Ron Overcash and Rev. Ed Thore officiating.
