Bill T. Payne, age 80, of Asheboro went to be with his Lord on January 19, 2010. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Calvary United Methodist Church, 114 Frances Dr., Asheboro. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 noon until time of service. He answered the call placed upon his life by the Lord while serving as a minister and gentle kind shepherd for area congregations for many years and by serving children and adults as a leader, mentor and friend while employed by Asheboro City Schools for 30 years. Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Effie Payne, his first wife, Geraldine Patterson Payne, his brothers, Grayson Payne and David Payne; his sisters, Iola Patterson and Edith Whaley. He is survived by his wife, Jettie York Payne; children, Donna Ferguson and her husband Greg, Betty Carol Luffman and her fiancé Dean Moody; step-children, Annette York and her fiancé David Whittington, Greg York and his wife Betty, Doug York; brother, Dewey Payne; sisters, Doris Garrett, Della Farlow, Betty Payne; grandchildren, Dana Miller and her husband Eric, Kristi Allred and her husband Stephen, Tiffiny Luffman, Josh Luffman, John Luffman; great grandchildren, Andrea and Mykala Luffman; step great grandchildren, Luke and Seth Miller; several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 1315 Ashleybrook Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103-2918 or Calvary United Methodist Church, 114 Frances Dr., Asheboro, NC 27203.
