Betty Jean Suggs

Betty Jean Smith Suggs, age 86, of Troy passed away at Baaseiah Family Care Home in Biscoe, NC on Thursday, August 5, 2021. Mrs. Suggs was born December 25, 1934 in Wadeville, NC, the daughter of the late Henry Clay Smith, Sr. and the late Nannie Deberry Smith. Betty was one of nine children. She graduated as Salutatorian of her class at Mt. Gilead High School. She was an animal lover and in her earlier years was a trainer of horses, taught classes for children, and traveled to show her horses all over. She had been employed by the Department of Social Services in Montgomery County. She was known for her great sense of humor. She was a member of Love Joy United Methodist Church. Betty is survived by one sister, Rachel Warner of Troy and several nieces and nephews that loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband: Raeburn Suggs; siblings: Helen Crepps, Irene Nordan, Lavern Smith, Bernice Hurley, H.C. (Junior) Smith, Jr., Mary Greene, and Timothy Smith. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Love Joy UMC Cemetery Fund, 1137 Substation Rd., Troy, NC 27371 or to the Montgomery County Humane Society, c/o Sally Morris, 1150 Okeeweemee Rd., Troy, NC 27371. A Funeral Service will be held in the Arbor at Love Joy UMC Church on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Gene Bruton and Rev. Justin Wells officiating.
