Bertha Mae Wood Freeman, age 80, formerly of Troy, died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Autumn Care Nursing & Rehabilitation, Biscoe.
Mrs. Freeman was born October 1, 1930 in Montgomery County, NC, the daughter of the late Emmett and the late Maggie Batten Wood Smith. She was a former employee of Capels, Inc. and a homemaker. She was a former 30 year resident of Carolina Beach. Her favorite past time, cooking, especially her cakes, was loved by everyone. She also loved to read and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Sherry Hines and her stepmother, Irene Wood Thompson.
She is survived by two daughters: Margaret F Preslar and husband, Jimmy of Troy, Helen F Pilkenton of Thomasville; two grandsons, Charles Miller and wife, Angela of Thomasville, Brad Wright and wife, Monica of Troy; great-granddaughter, Melina Miller of Thomasville; two great-grandsons, Jordan Wright of Independence, MO, Christopher Hines of Leland; two half sisters, Rosa Faircloth of Oakboro, Jane Hathcock of Norwood; six half brothers, Carl Wood of Ellerbe, Marshall Wood of Albemarle, Johnny Wood of Norwood, Bobby Wood of Albemarle, Wayne Wood of Troy, Jeff Wood of Candor; special friend, Charlie "Cash" Freeman of Troy.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at the home of Margaret F. Preslar, 100 Taft Street, Troy. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home with Tony Sedberry officiating.
Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, South Main Street,Troy.
