Bertha Irene "Bert" Whitaker Kirkman, age 87, of Asheboro went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bruce Dickerson and Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.
Mrs. Kirkman was born in Baux Mountain, NC on January 29, 1925 to Hillary Banner and Para Della Butcher Whitaker. She was a homemaker and a member of Fayetteville Street Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Bert was preceded in death by her husband's Walter Eugene King and Jesse Kirkman, and nine of her siblings. Bert will be greatly missed. Mom loved the Lord and enjoyed spending time with her family and going places. She was always there for her family and was very supportive.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth King and his wife Elizabeth of Leland; daughters, Kathy Gregson and her husband Dwight of Randleman, Kristy Morgan and her husband Michael of Raleigh; grandchildren, Pamela Gail Allred, Gwendolyn Denise Nichols, Jeremy Eugene Gregson, Stephen Matthew Hawks, Jenny Lenae Lamb, Kevin Michael Green, Emily Paige King; great grandson, Kenneth Ray Allred III; sister, Myrtle Nance of Asheboro; faithful canine companions, Baxter, Sami, Jack, and Mollie.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at her home.
