Bertha Josephine Evans

Bertha Josephine Varner Evans, 99, formerly of Liberty St., Asheboro, died at Randolph Memorial Hospital on Monday, May 24, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John Allen Evans; her parents George and Eugenia Varner, and 10 sisters and brothers. She is survived by sons Clarence Evans and wife Sue of Leland, North Carolina; Gene Evans and wife Linda of Durham, North Carolina; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and special caregiver Cora McDowell. She attended Signefield School and was employed with Acme-McCrary for over 40 years. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 PM on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Asheboro Friends Meeting, 230 East Kivett Street, Asheboro, where she was a member for over 70 years, with Rev. Ken Thames, Rev. Pat Thames and Rev. Leslie N. Winslow officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Community Church Cemetery, Hoover Hill Road, Asheboro.
