Bernice Nance Smith

Bernice Ellen Nance Smith, age 79, of Asheboro died Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Randolph Hospice House. Mrs. Smith was born on June 4, 1935 in Cedar Falls to Joseph and Annie York Nance. She was retired from Randleman Middle School after 25 years of service and was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband J.C. Smith and 4 siblings. Bernice loved hummingbirds, crocheting, and word finds. She loved her family and gospel music. She is survived by her son, Barry C. Smith and wife Cathy of Asheboro; daughter, Teresa Mitchem and husband Larry of Asheboro; grandchildren, Charles Sweatt, Jr. and wife Amanda of Sophia, Amy Trotter and husband Alex of Sophia, Crystal Walker of Ramseur; great grandchildren, Silas Walker, Jayden Walker, Kelsey Sweatt, Bryson Sweatt, Cassidy Trotter, and Colton Trotter; brother, James Nance of Asheboro; Godchildren, Tanya Smith and Towa Teague. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Oakhurst Baptist Church, 2225 South Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Dr. Richard Crider officiating.
