Barry Vander Helms, age 56, of Asheboro passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Mr. Helms was born in Mecklenburg County on April 4, 1963 to Jimmy and Geneva Altman Helms. Barry grew up in Mt. Pleasant and was employed with Oliver Rubber Company for 29 years. In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kylie Helms. Barry enjoyed gardening and tinkering. He was an avid sports fan, especially football and NASCAR Racing. Barry loved cooking and music.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Stevenson Helms; daughters, Samantha Helms of Asheboro and Krista Nance and husband Aaron of Asheboro; sons, Jeremy Wall and wife Jennifer of Asheboro and Keith Wall of Randleman; grandchildren, Rilee (Rilee Mo) and Eli (Little Buddy) Nance, and Savannah Wall; step grandchildren, Thaddeus and Nova; sister, Marvel Caudle of Salisbury; brother, Patrick "Tim" Helms of Wilmington; nieces, Ashley Martin, Courtney Fussel, and Lauren Caudle; and nephew, Jonathan Caudle.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Edwards officiating. Burial will be held in Randolph Memorial Park.
