Arthur Ray Bowman

Arthur Ray Bowman, age 79, of Asheboro died Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro. Mr. Bowman was born July 2, 1934 in Jacksonville, FL to Reitzel and Georgia Bowman and moved to Randolph County as a child. He worked for Acme-McCrary for a short time and then was employed with IBM in the late 60's until his retirement. Mr. Bowman was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and coached little league baseball. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Gray and brother, Howard Bowman. He is survived by his wife, Stella Bowman; daughter, Vanessa Proctor of Holly Springs and her friend Jim Hare of Asheboro; sons, Burton Bowman of Raleigh, Tim Bowman and his wife Doris of Asheboro; grandchildren, Nicole Proctor and her husband Adam of Raleigh, Michael Bowman of Raleigh; great grandchild, Abigail Proctor; brothers, Cecil Bowman and his wife Betty of Asheboro, Vernon " V.C." Bowman and his wife Martha Lee of Liberty; sisters, Lula Mae Bowman of Asheboro, Merle Veasey and her husband Bob of Durham; sisters-in-law, Miffie Moffitt of Thomasville, Linda Richardson of Randleman; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 6 - 8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Tim Pheagin officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204-0009.
