Anne Adella Sigman Shaffner of Asheboro, North Carolina died at home early on January 4th, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with ALS. Anne was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Jack and Evelyn Whitlock Sigman.
Anne married Bob Shaffner while they were working at Wachovia Bank. The couple moved several times before moving from Winston-Salem to Raleigh and finally settled in Asheboro in 1978. In addition to a residence in Asheboro, the couple enjoyed years of spending time with family and friends at Pawleys Island, SC.
Anne enjoyed traveling, cooking, playing bridge, taking walks with friends, and reading, but most of all spending time with her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, and her loyal poodle, Oliver.
Anne is survived by her husband Bob Shaffner; her three children, Ashley Shaffner Cranz (Oscar), Sloan Shaffner Dosser (John), Chris Shaffner (Thuy); grandchildren Sloan Cranz, Oscar Cranz IV, Lucy Anne Dosser, Bobby Shaffner, and Fries Shaffner. Anne is also survived by her sister, Bunny Kathryn Rogers (Ronny) of Raleigh and brother, Kimberly Keith Fabrizio of Winston-Salem; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Judy and Graham Smith of Winston-Salem, and her brother-in-law, John Shaffner of CO. She has many nieces and nephews: Maggie LaPlante of Raleigh, Sarah Whitmeyer of Maggie Valley, Gretchen Hoyle of Winston-Salem, Caroline Shah-Khan of Charlotte, Walker Fonville and Amalie Derdeyn of VA, John Christian Shaffner of VT, and Patrick Shaffner of CO.
Anne was passionate about helping others. She served various organizations including The Randolph County Library, Meals on Wheels, Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, her church as a Stephens Minister, and numerous other committees, clubs and charitable organizations. In addition, Anne loved spending time with her bible study as a core leader, the Sorosis book club, and as a partner in her catering endeavor, Impeccable Tastes, the Little Gate Garden Club and especially her Winston-Salem friends and her many friends here in Asheboro.
The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the Duke ALS Center, Richard Bedlack, MD and team, Hospice of the Piedmont (High Point, NC), especially Anne's nurse, Cathy Moffitt, Pastor Lynda Ferguson of the First United Methodist Church and Father Joe Mitchell of The Church of the Good Shepherd in Asheboro, both of whom will preside at Anne's memorial service.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 in the morning at the First United Methodist Church in Asheboro, with visitation to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
