Anne Burgess Neely, age 97, of Asheboro died Thursday, August 14, 2014 at North Pointe Assisted Living Community.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Neely was born on November 2, 1916 in Fort Motte, SC to Andrew Plumer and Marion Mood Burgess. Anne grew up in Summerton, SC and was a founding member of Dogwood Acres Presbyterian Church in Asheboro. She came to Asheboro as a Home Demonstration Agent for the Randolph County Extension office and later in life taught at Seagrove School. Anne was a member of the Col. Andrew Balfour DAR and the Thursday Study Club. In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her husband James B. Neely, step daughters Carolyn Neely Hager and Mary Neely DeMauro and granddaughter Sarah Hager Gatti.
She is survived by her sons, James B. Neely, Jr. and wife Bertie Neely and William M. Neely and wife Anne-Kemp Neely all of Asheboro; grandchildren, Hayes N. Jones, Sarah N. Lanier, David A. Neely, William Scott Hager, James D. Hager, Annie Hager-Blunk, Nancy D. Marquis, and Kelly D. Fiest; and 5 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro.
