Amos James Blythe, age 87, of 338 Sherwood Oaks Dr., Asheboro died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Blythe was born May 19, 1925 in Whiting, Indiana the son of Lemuel Amos and Mildred Peppiat Blythe.
Amos served in the Marine Corps as a Corporal from 1943 to 1946 during World War II in the South Pacific. He played in the Marine band, and was also a bugler for Revelry. He was a corporal and belonged to the order of Neptunus Rex.
He was a "self-made" Bible scholar, who served as a deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheboro.
He was a 1956 graduate of Purdue University with an Electrical Engineering degree, and later employed by LTV Steel in East Chicago, Indiana. He worked in the Utilities Department and retired after 38 years of service.
He is survived by daughter & her husband, Sue & Doug Griffith of Asheboro; daughter & her husband, Jeanne & Donald Markland of Streamwood, IL; daughter & her husband, Rebecca & Robert Waldron of Valparasio, IN; son & his wife, James Thomas and Laura Blythe of Valparasio, IN; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; half brother, Edward Dahlberg of Clinton, IN; half sister, Claudia Dahlberg of Coldwater, MI.
The family will receive friends Monday, December 10, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Dr. John S. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro with Military Honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
