Alvis P Goforth

Alvis Poole Goforth, age 85, of Candor died Thursday, November 29, 2018 at FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care, West End, NC.

Mrs. Goforth was born April 4, 1933 in Montgomery County, the daughter of the late Lex Poole and the late Stella Kelly Poole. She was a loving mother whose first priority was her relationship with God. She valued people over materialistic things. She was a homemaker and an avid gardener with a proverbial green thumb. She was an independent woman with a strong will presented in a mild, meek manner. She loved her family and lived an exemplary life that personified her strong faith. She enjoyed quilting and was an excellent seamstress.

She is survived by her husband: Grady Zeno Goforth; son David Goforth and wife Rene of Rockwell, NC; daughter Bonita Goforth Johnson and husband Gray of Greensboro, NC; son Dale Goforth and wife Renita of Troy, NC; daughter Belinda Stuart and husband Bill of Candor, NC; brothers: Edward Poole and wife Gathy of Norwood, NC, Chester Poole of Candor, NC, Harold Poole of Tabor City, NC, Dudley Poole of Troy, NC and Melvin Poole and wife Kaye of Oakboro, NC; sisters: Clara Brigman and husband Jim of Rockingham, NC, Viola Ewing and husband George of Rockingham, NC, and Vonnie Helms and husband Steve, of Mt. Gilead, NC; son-in-law Roger Knox of Louisburg, NC; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by sister Edna Mae Blake, daughter, Bonnie G. Knox and grandson Zachary Goforth.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 1, 2018, from 6-8 PM at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Troy, NC. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Holly Mount Baptist Church, Holly Mt. Church Rd., Mt. Gilead, NC at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Ben Hall and Rev. Scott Leary officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Mount Church Cemetery.
