Alma Burrus Garner, 87, of Asheboro died Sunday, September 23, 2007 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro with Rev. Thomas H. Smith and Rev. Virgil M. Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
Alma was born to Romie Claire Burrus and Viola Butner Burrus in Surry County, NC and graduated from Copeland High School. She was a member of Richland Baptist Church in Asheboro. Alma was employed with Bossong Hosiery Mill until her first child was born and she decided to dedicate her days to raising her children and grandchildren. An avid bird watcher, Alma found great joy in welcoming a multitude of hummingbirds to her home. Outdoors is where Alma loved to spend time, whether gardening, fishing or taking family vacations to the beach. If she had to be indoors, she enjoyed completing word finds and putting together puzzles. Alma loved family gatherings where she showcased her southern cooking abilities. She also collected different styles of roosters to decorate her home. Alma was preceded in death by her husband Roy Everett Garner, Sr. and daughter-in-law, Emily Singletary Garner, the late wife of Roy Everette Garner.
She is survived by daughter, Ann Garner Kennedy and her husband Virgil Maurice Kennedy of Asheboro, NC; sons, Roy Everette Garner, Jr. of Asheboro, NC, Michael Dean Garner and his wife Robin Cox Garner of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Bryon Kennedy and his wife Jamie Kennedy of Mt. Airy, NC, Lori Kennedy of Hampstead, NC, Rachel Garner of Asheboro, NC and Matthew Garner of Hickory, NC.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 25, 2007 from 6 - 8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.
