Alice Setzer McElhannon

Alice Setzer McElhannon, age 92, of 571 Westminster Dr., Asheboro died Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Spaulding, Rev. Fran Adams, and Rev. Edward S. Tapper officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park. Mrs. McElhannon was born in Newton, NC, the daughter of the late Mary Ellen Gaines Setzer and Jasper Sidney Setzer. She was a founding and longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where she was active on committees, in circles and Sunday School classes. She was a retired textile worker. Alice was a loving homemaker and was known for her delicious cakes, pies, and puddings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence "Tom" McElhannon, and brothers, Hub Setzer and Fred Setzer. She is survived by her sons, Thomas M. McElhannon and his wife Sylvia Tysor McElhannon of Eden, NC, Ronald J. McElhannon and his wife Georgianna Hardin McElhannon of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Susan Kiser and her husband Jimmy Kiser of Chapel Hill, NC, Tee McElhannon of Eden, NC, Barry McElhannon and his wife Christi McElhannon of Florence, SC, John McElhannon and his wife Robin McElhannon of Mooresville, NC; great granddchildren, Lisa K. Jones and her husband Cole Jones of Holly Springs, NC and Jennifer Kiser of Cary, NC. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her loving homebound caregiver Brenda Trotter, caring neighbors, Jim and Faye Luther and Brenda and John Clausen, and special friend Mary Isley.
