After a long life of loving, giving and caring, Alice Lee Scarborough Deaton passed away peacefully Friday night, May 25, 2012 at Autumn Care in Biscoe, NC. She was 96. Alice Lee was born in Mt. Gilead, NC to Henry Lee and Hattie Gaddy Scarborough on May 1, 1916. She lived in Troy, NC on East Main St. for 71 years and has been a resident at Autumn Care for the past 15 months.
She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Quincy Deaton. She was also predeceased by a son, Johnny; a daughter, Harriet D. McCallum (Don); her brother, Benton Scarboro (Margaret); and a sister, Margaret S. Dickenson (Tom).
She is survived by her children, Martha D. Robinson (Gerald) of Charlotte and her son, Jim Deaton (Brenda) of Raleigh. She has eight grandchildren: Laura M. McIIvaine (Doug); David McCallum (Kate); Brian Deaton (Rachel); Robert Deaton (Heather); Emily R. Shepherd (Jimmy); Julie Parham (Richard); Katie Robinson (Bo); Stephanie S. Randall (Daniel). There are five great grandchildren: Grayson McIIvaine, Anna McIIvaine, Greer McCallum, Allie McCallum, Mason Shepherd; one great-great grandson, Jacob; sister-in-law, Margaret Scarboro.
The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to the entire community for the love, compassion and care given to Alice Lee. We especially want to thank the East Main Street neighbors, the wonderful staff at Autumn Care and Priscilla Covington.
Visitation will be at Pugh Funeral Home in Troy from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Tuesday, May 29 followed by a graveside service at Southside Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. in Troy.
