Albert Franklin "Al" Wood, age 81, of 937 Shamrock Rd., Asheboro died peacefully Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro. A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 133 North Church Street, Asheboro with Dr. John S. Rogers and Rev. Andrew P. Grose officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Mr. Wood was a native of Winston-Salem and lived most of his life in Jonesville. He was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill where he was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of First Baptist Church. Al was formerly employed with Klopman Mills in Asheboro, was retired from Burlington Industries in Greensboro, and after retirement, was employed part-time at Hecht's. He was a Mason, a member of Asheboro Lodge #699. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Swaim. Al was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Sturkie Wood of the home; daughters, Laura Byers and her husband Mike Byers of Asheboro, NC, Elizabeth Price and her husband Bobby Price of Apex, NC; grandchildren, Tate Byers, Lindsay Byers, Morgan Price, and Meredith Price; sister-in-law, Helen Grose and her husband Rev. Andrew P. Grose of Lynchburg, VA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at his home. Memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 1332 North Halsted Street, Suite 201, Chicago, IL 60642 or First Baptist Church, 133 North Church Street, Asheboro, NC 27203. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and aides at Moses Cones Hospital for their loving care. We especially appreciate the guidance and tender care given by those of Palliative Care Services.
