Afton Poe Hurley

Afton Poe Hurley, age 90, of 112 West St. in Franklinville died Friday, June 26, 2009 at Universal Health Care Of Ramseur. Mr. Hurley was born April 1, 1919 the son of Stephen Dayton and Sarah Frances McLeod Hurley. Mr. Hurley was a native of Montgomery County, was a graduate of Troy High School and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. Afton was a member of Sunset Avenue Church of God, attended Flint Hill Church of God, where he was the caretaker of the cemetery and taught Sunday School for 45 years. He was a retired salesman with Randolph Packing Co. of Asheboro, after retirement Afton was employed with AVS Vending Service. In Addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Elgie Laura H. Hurley his wife of 60 years. He is survived by son & daughter in law, Steve & Cheri Hurley of Albany, GA; son & daughter in law, A. C. & Benita Hurley of Franklinville and son & daughter in law, Rickey & Renee Hurley of Asheboro; granddaughters: April Coleman of Denton, Kimberly Russell and Cathy Varner both of Asheboro, Stephanie Hurley of Albany, GA and Mary Amber Hurley of Franklinville; grandsons: Craig, Brandon and Robert Hurley all of Asheboro; 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 28, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro other times at the home of his son, 112 West St. in Franklinville. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Sunset Avenue Church Of God, 900 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro with Rev. Boyd Byerly and Rev. Steve Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in the Flint Hill Church Of God Cemetery, 1191 Flint Hill Rd. in Troy with Military Honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorials be made to the Sunset Avenue Church Of God, 900 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC 27203 OR The Gideon Bible Memorial Chairman, P.O.
