Arthur Reed "Doc" Russell, age 89, of Randleman, died Monday, August 27, 2012 at Universal Health Care Of Ramseur. Mr. Russell was born August 3, 1923 in Randleman the son of Arthur and Pearl Dennis Russell. He served in the US Navy during WWII in Guan in the Seabee Unit. "Doc" was a member of First United Methodist Church, served as a Sunday School Teacher, Lay Leader and was the Methodist Men "Cook". He also served on the Board of Alderman for several years and Mayor of Randleman in 1964. "Doc" retired from Southland Insurance after 30 years being an agent. He was a loving father, grandfather and brother and there was no distance too great to follow his grandchildren's ballgames. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Routh Russell. He is survived by two daughters: Susan Kirkman of Asheboro, and Cindy R Gill of Fayetteville; sisters: Decie Moody of Ramseur, Mildred Oliver of High Point, and Betty Rodden of Archdale; brother: Lee Roy Russell of Randleman; 3 grandchildren, Jonathan, Kelli and Christopher, who were the "Love Of His Life". The family will receive friends Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 1:30 - 3:30 PM at First United Methodist Church, 301 S. Main St., Randleman, NC. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 pm with Rev. Dana Bunn and Rev. Stephen Cox officiating. Burial will be at Randolph Memorial Park, with Military Honors performed by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
