Artis Bascom "A.B." Caviness, Jr., age 90, of 1138 Draper St., Asheboro died Friday, August 7, 2009 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Reaves officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.Mr. Caviness was a native of Moore County and a lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was retired from Union Carbide and was former owner of L&L Laundry. He was a member and Deacon of United Church of Christ and most recently a member of Balfour Baptist Church. A.B. enjoyed Square Dancing with the Smiling Squares Club and traveling the world. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Nelson Caviness and his daughter, Susan Elaine Caviness.He is survived by his wife, Mary Westmoreland Caviness; daughters, Patricia Sugg and Kay Donivant and her husband Jim; granddaughters, Amanda Donivant, Crys Roeder and her husband Randy Suggs; grandson, James Donivant III; great grandsons, Zack Roeder, Alex Roeder; brother, Bill Caviness and his wife Betty; nephew, Mike Caviness; and niece, Pam Teague.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, NC.Memorials may be made to Balfour Baptist Church, 1644 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.
